Stepping out on my own!

After spending the last 7 years working in Private Practice Physiotherapy for someone else. I thought it may be time to take the plunge and step out on my own. It's a scary thought and is not easy to sort out I can tell you!
After months in the making I'm finally up and running and open for business. However it doesn't stop there, I am beginning to learn a new phrase:  SEO (Search engine optimisation). Which is basically tactics to improve your search engine visibility. If you read the forums it looks like you need to get out there on every possible online site going and write blogs and get all over social media etc. Luckily I already have a lot of things in my favour due to already having my blog: http://mathewhawkesphysiotherapy.blogspot.co.uk/ which you are of course on.

Other positives are having my you tube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/hawkesphysiotherapy
which keeps my subscribers healthy with videos on all manner of issues to help them to recover with advice, exercises and information.

Then there is good old Twitter: https://twitter.com/MathewHawkes If you want to stay up to date with all the latest news in the world about injury and other physio related topics then this is the place to visit. Not to mention I regularly have quotes from the latest research so you can be sure that the care offered at Hawkes Physiotherapy is bang up to date with the latest evidence!

Examples of some of the latest evidence:

  • Cervical & scapular stretching & strengthening exercises help chronic neck pain & cervicogenic headaches in the long term (Kay et al 2012)
  • Massage for mechanical neck pain was found to provide immediate effectiveness both in pain & tenderness (Patel et al 2012)
  • Employees get back to work quicker if they are assigned part time absence rather than full sick leave (Viikari-Juntura et al 2012)
Some interesting facts:

  • Ruffer & Rietti (1912) noted that the majority of skeletal lesions coming from ancient Egypt were typically of Osteoarthritis.
  • The hip joint withstands 2610 PSI going up stairs (Car tyre pressure 29 PSI)!
  • Knee: Quadriceps (thigh muscle) generates 5 x body weight in force (Reid 1992)
  • The talus is the only bone in the body that has no muscle attachments!

Oh yeah then there is Facebook where you can chat with me on my profile: https://www.facebook.com/mathewhawkes.physiotherapy
